Student Counselling in Central Durham

The Pressures of Student Life

Attending university is a significant life event, offering both challenges and opportunities for growth. It can be a demanding time, filled with new experiences, academic expectations and social pressures.

You might be experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. While some moments might be filled with excitement and achievement, others may be marked by stress, anxiety, and a sense of inadequacy. It’s important to recognise when these low moments become more persistent and overwhelming so you’re able to take steps to manage this.

As a student, you might be experiencing:

  • Feelings of isolation and Homesickness.

  • Procrastination and difficulties with time management.

  • Academic pressures, exam stress and anxiety about achieving your goals.

  • Low self-esteem and Imposter Syndrome.

  • Social pressures or difficulties, including Fear of Missing Out (FOMO).

  • Struggling to balance commitments like clubs, societies, part-time work, and studies

  • Other personal challenges, such as loss, family difficulties, unresolved issues from the past or ongoing mental health concerns.
